Protesters gathered outside the British embassy in Washington DC on Thursday, for an emergency rally following the arrest of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange in London.
Activists representing Code pink, Answer Coalition, Popular resistance and others spoke out against the possible extradition of Assange to the US on charges of conspiring with whistle-blower Chelsea Manning and computer hacking... Еще, for which he could face up to five years in prison.
Assange was arrested on April 11 after Ecuador officially revoked his asylum status and allowed UK police to escort him from the embassy and into custody. He was then taken to a British court, where he was found guilty of breaching bail. He now awaits sentencing and could face up to a year in prison.
US federal prosecutors have formally requested the Australian citizen's extradition and Assange has been formally re-arrested on these charges according to Scotland Yard.
