Footage from Thursday shows the aftermath of protests that broke out in Memphis, Tennessee, following the death of a 20-year-old man who was shot by the police on Wednesday.
Protests turned violent overnight as crowds were confronted with armed police officers. According to the Memphis police forces, protesters threw rocks and bricks and as a result 25 officers are suffering from minor injuries... Еще.
Footage shows damage done to a building, from which protesters reportedly torn down bricks, as well as the location near where the victim was shot.
«Yeah that's his blood, his blood is still right there on the rocks. They left their gloves and all of their equipment... they shot the truck up and they shot him over 20 times,» said a man who claimed to be the father of the victim, reportedly identified as Brandon Webber.
Local resident James King said that «the street's blocked out, I couldn't get home to it this morning, I had to sleep in my trunk.»
Webber was reportedly wanted by authorities on «multiple warrants,» according to a statement from Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich. According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's website, preliminary information suggests that Webber allegedly rammed his vehicle in police officers' vehicles before exiting with a weapon as they tried to apprehend him. He subsequently shot by police, and no police officers were reported injured due to the shooting.
