Hundreds gathered outside the Alameda County government building, in Oakland, on Friday to protest the annual «Urban Shield» weapons exposition and police training exercises.
Spokesperson for the 'Stop Urban Shield Coalition' Nathaniel Moore said of the expo, «This type of policing and the SWAT training that goes along with it is primarily deployed against our communities.»
He went on to say... Еще that the high costs for the exercise could be invested elsewhere, «That six million dollars could be invested in any number of alternatives in the Bay Area that really speak to community preparedness and resilience so we’re here to basically tell everybody that we want to spend money on the alternatives instead of providing our police with the latest technology in weaponry.»
Urban Shield is an annual weapons exposition in the Bay Area, which also holds multi-disciplinary exercises for police in urbanised areas.
