US: Tillerson and Mattis tell Senate that a new war authorisation would cause 'uncertainty'

Defense Secretary James Mattis and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson highlighted that a new version of the Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) was unnecessary and outlined the conditions they believe Congress has to follow if it wishes to pass a new war authorisation, in an address to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in Washington DC on Monday. «The 2001 AUMF remains a... Еще cornerstone for ongoing US military operations and continues to provide legal authority relied upon to defeat this threat,» stated Tillerson. Tillerson also added that the legal authorities for heading a transnational threat such as ISIS cannot be «contained by geographic boundaries». «Repealing the 2001 and 2002 AUMF would only cause unnecessary policy and legal uncertainty» noted Defense Secretary Mattis.
