I already gave all the answers; everyone knows Uruguay’s position, so let’s move on to another topic.” SOT, Journalist (Spanish): “Are you surprised?” SOT, Rodolfo Nin Novoa, Uruguay’s Foreign Minister (Spanish): “Absolutely.” *SINGLE SHOT AT SOURCE* Uruguayan Foreign Minister Rodolfo Nin Novoa said that US’ request to expel Russian diplomats from the Latin American country was “inappropriate” during an interview in Montevideo, Friday. “Uruguay is a sovereign country, and controls its own diplomatic politics with the rest of the world. In reality it wasn’t a request to expel diplomats, but some of them, making a simile with what is happening in some European countries as a consequence, or better said, reprisal of what happened with the Russian spy in the UK. But Uruguay said ‘I reject this possibility’,” stated Nin Novoa. According to the Foreign Affairs Minister, the suggestion was made during a bilateral meeting in the context of the past Summit of the Americas, held in Lima, Peru. In late March, US President Donald Trump asked leaders of other countries to join Washington’s decision to expel Russian diplomats. Washington’s request that other countries also expel Russian diplomats is improper, Uruguay’s Foreign Minister Rodolfo Nin Novoa said. “I did not take this request well, I said it was improper and it should not have been made,” the top diplomat said as cited by the El Pais newspaper.
