The united opposition candidate Luis Lacalle Pou held a narrow lead in Uruguay's presidential run-off election in a vote officials said was too close to call.
At an election rally in the early hours of Monday morning, the National Party's Lacalle Pou claimed victory, although asked supporters to «return to your homes with restrained joy».
Lacalle Pou led with 50.6 per cent of the vote to 49.4... Еще per cent for the governing Broad Front coalition's Daniel Martinez, with more than 99 per cent of ballots from Sunday's election counted.
The margin of victory was reported at just under 30,000 votes out of nearly 2.3 million.
Given the closeness of the vote, the Electoral Court said it could not yet declare a successor to sitting President Tabare Vazquez.
