United Nations: Jaafari slams US, alleges American support for IS

Syrian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Bashar Jaafari voiced severe criticism of the US and its coalition partners, addressing the United Nations Security Council meeting in New York City on Wednesday. Jaafari accused both the US and Turkey of occupying Syria, providing support for the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIL/ISIS), and that the US even «assisted terrorist... Еще groups and facilitated their acquiring of poisonous chemical weapons, to be used against innocent civilians,» and afterwards attempting to frame the Syrian Government. Jaafari also mentioned the recent US airstrike from the 8th of February, and arguing it was conducted in an effort to protect IS against Syrian Government forces. On his end, UN Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura stated «this is as violent and worrying and dangerous a moment as any that I have seen in my time of tenure,» which he has held for over four years. According to claims by the United States government, pro-Syrian government forces (National Defence Forces) launched a so-called «unprovoked attack» against US-allied militants from the 'Syrian Democratic Forces' in the Deir ez-Zor area. In response, US coalition aircraft conducted airstrikes against the Syrian forces. Mandatory Credit to: UN TV
