Chinese President Xi Jinping called for a 'joint international response' to the coronavirus pandemic, addressing the 75th United Nations General Assembly in New York City via a video call on Tuesday.
«Facing the virus, we should enhance solidarity and get through this together. We should follow the guidance of science, give full support to the leading role of the World Health Organisation, and launch a joint international response to beat this pandemic. Any attempt of politicising the issue or stigmatisation must be rejected,» said Xi.
He also announced that several COVID-19 vaccines being developed by China were in Phase III clinical trials.
«When their development is completed and they are available for use, these vaccines will be made a global public good, and they will be provided to other developing countries on a priority basis,» said the Chinese President.
His speech came as the US-China tensions took the center stage at the 75th UN General Assembly with US President Donald Trump blaming Beijing for the COVID-19 pandemic.
