UN: US VP Pence singles out Russia, Iran and «radical Islamic terrorism» as security threats

US Vice-President Mike Pence called on UN members to take action to maintain peace, claiming that Russia is compromising the sovereignty of countries in Eastern Europe as «it seeks to redraw international borders by force», in an address to the United Nations Security Council in New York City, Wednesday. Pence also reiterated parts of US President Donald Trump's speech, saying «we will always put America first» but noted, «America first does not mean America alone. As the President said, we 'will forever be a great friend to the world.» Addressing North Korean missile tests Pence emphasised that if the US were forced to defend themselves and their allies, «we will do so with military power that is effective and overwhelming.» During his speech the US Vice-President, also urged the reformation of the «Human Rights Council’s membership and its operation,» stating that «a majority» of members «fail to meet even the most basic human rights standards.» He went on to criticise the Council's position towards Israel stating it is a «forum for anti-Semitism and invective against Israel,» calling upon the Security Council to, «end the Human Rights Council’s blatant bias against our cherished ally Israel.»
