A report released by the UN Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) found «serious human rights violations and abuses,» stated UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric at a press conference in New York on Tuesday.
«Demonstration related violence from the 25th of October to November 4th, caused at least 97 further deaths and thousands of injuries,» he reported.
«The unlawful use of lethal and less lethal... Еще weapons by security forces and armed people require urgent attention,» added Dujarric.
An estimated 97 people were killed and thousands injured in anti-government demonstrations between October 25 and November 4, according to the report.
Sixteen of those deaths were attributed to demonstrators being struck by tear gas canisters.
The protests that started on October 25 were sparked by deep-seated corruption, unemployment and lack of basic services.
