UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres spoke about the need to address the conditions conducive to terrorism and extremism at the closing of the High-Level Conference on Counter-Terrorism in New York City on Friday. «We need to do more to address the conditions that are conducive to terrorism and violent extremism — lack of opportunity, exclusion, inequality, discrimination and serious violations... Еще of human rights,» Guterres said. Guterres also spoke of the need to help young people, particularly with regards to preventing radicalisation and in the re-integration of those already radicalised, saying: «This must include above all young people. We need them to help counter the manipulative messages of terrorists and reintegrate the radicalised. And we need to empower them through education, jobs and vocational training. We need to uphold the rights of victims and ensure they have a voice.» The conference ran from June 28 to 29, and was aimed at increasing international cooperation and strengthening counter-terrorism efforts.
