UN: Security Council backs Russian resolution extending Yemen sanctions

A draft resolution prolonging a sanctions regime against Yemen received unanimous approval from the United Nations Security Council in New York City on Monday. Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said his country 'welcomed' the adoption of Resolution 2140. Earlier, a British resolution expressing concern at alleged Iranian violations of an arms embargo... Еще placed on Yemen was rejected thanks to a Russian veto. It had received 11 votes for, two against and another two abstentions. United States Representative on the Economic and Social Council at the United Nations Kelley E. Currie said Russia's veto would only serve to 'protect' Iranian influence in the region. Iran is accused of supplying Houthi rebels with missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles. Yemen has been under embargo since 2015. SOURCE: UNIFEED-UNTV
