UN: Money to provide emergency fuel in Gaza runs out

The UN has run out of money for emergency fuel to support Palestinians in Gaza, leaving water facilities at risk of shutdown and medical supplies at «critical low levels,» according to Nikolai Mladenov, the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process. The crisis follows the US decision in August this year to suspend payments to the UNRWA, which were providing the agency with $350... Еще million a year — making up approximately one third the UNRWA's budget. Mladenov said that despite urgent calls for further support from donors, «little additional funding was forthcoming.” Nikki Haley, Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations also spoke at the meeting of the UN Security Council, arguing that the focus should be on Iran's actions rather than Israel's. She said: «It is difficult to name a conflict in the Middle East that does not have Iran’s fingerprints on it.» The Security Council met to hear a briefing by the Special Coordinator on the implementation of a security council resolution, concerning Israeli settlements in Palestinian territories.
