Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General Stephane Dujarric stated that vital roads to formerly besieged areas in the Syrian city Deir ez-Zor will be reopened, speaking from the UN headquarters in New York, on Thursday.
Dujarric told the press conference that 93,500 people had received airdrops by the World Food Programme.
Dujarric added that the UN has received reports that commercial trucks... Еще have started to arrive into the newly-cleared areas and that the organisation is currently working with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent and humanitarian partners to «to respond to those in need of assistance in Deir ez-Zor, as soon as security conditions allow.»
The breaking of the siege on Deir ez-Zor by the Syrian Arab Army on September 5, marked a significant blow against the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIL/ISIS) as it loses control of vital supply routes and strongholds.
