UN: Condemnation of targeting civilians should include Palestinians — Palestinian Amb.

United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nickolay Mladenov condemned Tuesday's rockets fired from Gaza into Israel, during a UN Security Council meeting in New York City, Wednesday. Mladenov addressed the Security Council via teleconference from Jerusalem. «Such attacks are completely unacceptable. The firing of rockets and mortars against civilians cannot be... Еще justified under any circumstances,» he stated. «This latest round of attacks is a warning, it is a warning to all of us, how close to the brink of war we are every single day,» added Mladenov. «It is outrageous for the Security Council to fail to condemn Hamas rocket attack against Israeli civilians, while the Human Rights Council approves sending a team to investigate Israeli actions,» commented the Permanent Representative of the United States to the UN Nikki Haley. Permanent Representative of Palestine to the UN Riyad Mansour, also commented on the Israeli shooting of thousands of protesters and killing of over 100 people in recent weeks in Gaza, saying: «It is inexcusable for the international community to continue standing idly by, expressing only regret, yet failing to act, even as the rights, safety, well-being and dignity of our people continue to be so grossly and systematically violated, amounting to war crimes and crimes against humanity.» Mansour continued, «we do not condone and we reject and condemn all violence against civilians,» before calling for condemnation of targeting civilians «to include also the Palestinian civilians.» Mandatory Credit: UNTV
