Ukraine: 'We want to know more' — Wife of imprisoned Russian news chief detained in Kiev

Russian broadcaster VGTRK released on Wednesday a recording of a Skype interview with Irina Vyshinskaya, wife of RIA Novosti Ukraine editor-in-chief Kirill Vyshinsky, who was detained by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in Kiev on Tuesday. According to Vyshinskaya, the only thing she knows regarding her husband is that he is now in Kherson. “He was taken out there early in the morning. He... Еще is there with the lawyers», she said. «The last time we had contact was on Monday. On Tuesday, I tried to call Kirill in the interval between 10:00 and 10:30 in the morning, he didn’t pick up the phone and, in all likelihood, that’s when the detention was happening,» she said. Vyshinsky’s wife claimed Kirill’s apartment was searched and that the SBU went to his mother and father’s apartment. The Security Service of Ukraine, which conducted the operation against employees of the news agency, claimed that they exposed the activities of a network of media structures controlled by the Russian Federation. According to reports, Vyshinsky was sent from Kiev to Kherson to a pre-trial detention centre. Previously, on May 15th, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko claimed that the actions of the journalists fall under the crime of state treason.
