Residents of Donetsk expressed their opinions about the latest decree signed by the Russian President Vladimir Putin that simplifies the issuance of Russian passports to residents of Donbass, on Wednesday.
The decree 'On the definition for humanitarian purposes of categories of persons entitled to apply for the citizenship of the Russian Federation in a simplified manner,' was signed by Putin... Еще earlier the same day.
Donetsk resident Vladislav said that this is «an undoubtedly positive step», adding that many people cannot use their Ukrainian citizenship «to the fullest» as they cannot travel to other regions of the country.
According to another resident Anna, the signed decree will provide «certainty and stability» to the residents of Donetsk and Lugansk.
Outgoing President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and elected head of state Vladimir Zelenskiy condemned the decree. Poroshenko called the document «Russia's unprecedented interference in the domestic affairs of an independent state.»
«Unfortunately, this decree does not bring us closer to the solution of the main task — the ceasefire,» says the statement of Zelenskiy's staff.
As the head of the Russian state said, the presidential decree «is a purely humanitarian issue» and Moscow has «no desire to create problems for the new Ukrainian authorities».
