UK: «Welcome to foodbank Britain» — £10k of food unloaded outside PM's residence

A campaign group delivered £10,000 (€11,300) worth of food outside British Prime Minister Theresa May's Downing Street residence on Tuesday, in protest against the austerity policies of the current Conservative government. The 'Welcome to foodbank Britain' protest was organised by the People's Assembly Against Austerity. The campaign group's National Secretary, Sam Fairbairn, spoke about the... Еще aims of the protest saying, «we've delivered [the food] directly to Downing Street; a very clear message to the government, and to Theresa May and [Chancellor] Philip Hammond because we believe their policies of austerity, their policies of rolling out Universal Credit, we've seen huge crises around these kinds of things, are driving people into poverty.» After receiving more donations from the general public, the campaign group will deliver the food to the Trussel Trust, a foodbank organisation. The publicity stunt was timed to coincide with Wednesday's Autumn Budget statement by Hammond, known as 'spreadsheet Phil' for his prudent fiscal policy.
