England manager Gareth Southgate confirmed that striker Marcus Rashford will miss the Euro 2020 qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Montenegro with an ankle injury, in comments at a press conference from London on Thursday.
«Well, he's been with our medical team all week. We've tried to progress his training through the week, so he did some running with them. But it's clear to us he's not... Еще going to be ready for our matches. So we're going to send him back to the club. And yes, he's out of the two games,» Southgate confirmed.
Rashford is the latest injury to hit England, although Southgate insisted that his squad had strength in depth.
«It's a great opportunity for the others because they've been exceptional in training. They look like they've been with us forever. So, we're really excited. I think we've lost a lot of players, but it's an opportunity for others. And, when looked at the level of training and the way the team have prepared -- they've been excellent,» he told journalists.
Asked of his options in case another one of his players gets injured, Southgate said he would seek to promote one of England's U-21 players.
The three lions are will host the Czech Republic at London's Wembley Stadium on Friday, March 22.
