Dozens of protesters took to the streets of Birmingham on Sunday to call on the Greater Manchester Police to investigate the death of 12 year old Somali refugee Shukri Abdi, found dead in a river in Bury.
Chanting «We won't be silent. Justice!» and holding signs with Shukri's face, protesters shared their stories as persons of colour asking for recognition on the importance of refugees' lives... Еще.
«If Shukri Abdi was a blonde haired, blue-eyed young British girl, 10 Downing Street would be in uproar. But she's not. She is a black Muslim Somali girl, and that is a shame,» said a protester.
Shukri Abdi fled with her family from Somalia to the UK in 2018. She was discovered dead in the River Irwell in Bury, Greater Manchester, on Thursday. According to reports, there are indications that Shukri was bullied at school for months before her death, but police have said they are not treating her death as suspicious, describing it instead as a «tragic incident.»
