Members of the County Grand Orange Lodge of Glasgow, a protestant fraternal order, hit the streets of Glasgow on Saturday, after their march was re-routed by the police to avoid a Catholic church.
The rerouting was implemented after the police reportedly raised concerns, as about 200 extra officers would have been needed to deal with the march itself and a counter-protest would have taken place... Еще had the route not been changed.
Last year, the priest of St Alphonsus Church Tom White had been spat on during the Orange Order's march by a 24-year-old man who was consequently jailed.
Edward McGonnell, the County Grandmaster of Grand Orange Lodge of Glasgow, said «we have never witnessed anything like this. This was an isolated incident created by a bystander who had no connection whatsoever with the Orange institution.»
