UK: Pompeo condemns support for Maduro by certain 'leaders' in UK and US

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and the United Kingdom’s Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt held a joint press conference in London on Wednesday after meeting for talks in the UK capital. Pompeo condemned what he described as the support of certain UK and US leaders for Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, in apparent reference to Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn. «It is disgusting to see leaders, not... Еще only in the United Kingdom but in the United States as well, who continue to support the murderous dictator [Nicolas] Maduro,» said Pompeo. He also stressed the alliance with the UK in regards to Russia, saying that «together we will continue to disrupt hostile activities of Russian intelligence networks, uphold the prohibition of chemical weapons use, and defend our people against all form of Russian aggression.» Hunt meanwhile stated that the Iran nuclear deal «is a very important achievement of Western diplomacy.» Pompeo however recalled the US opposition to the agreement, saying: «we've made a decision different than the United Kingdom has with respect to the JCPOA [the Iran nuclear deal].» Iran earlier in the day announced a partial withdrawal from the agreement. «We urge the Iranians to think very long and hard before they break that deal,» Hunt said. Pompeo started his trip to Europe by attending a meeting of ministers of the Arctic Council in the northern Finnish city of Rovaniemi. He cancelled his visit to Germany on Tuesday, May 7, hours before he was due to arrive in Berlin. mandatory credit: itn news
