A police officer has been shot dead by a suspect inside Croydon's police station, in South London, on Friday.
The shooting is said to have occurred in the early hours of Friday at Croydon's Custody Centre, the city's Metropolitan Police Service said.
Officers, locals and MP Steve Reed were seen leaving flowers outside the building.
«People feel unsafe around anyways, but in a place where you're supposed to feel safe, where there's police, something like this happens is quite tragic,» said a local resident.
The 23-year-old suspect, who was being detained inside the station, turned the firearm on himself after having shot the police officer. The suspect is being treated at the hospital and is reported to remain in a critical condition.
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson as well as UK Home Secretary Priti Patel and Mayor of London Sadiq Khan offered their sympathies and condolences to the family of the police officer via social media.
