UK: On the bread line — McDonald's workers strike over low pay

Dozens of McDonald's workers protested over low pay and zero hour contracts outside the fast food chain's offices in East Finchley, London on Saturday. Workers are demanding that head office meets their acceptable 'living wage' of £10 per hour, while ceasing to offer uncertain hours to their employees with 'zero hour' contracts. Spokesperson and McDonald's worker Shen Batmaz explained the... Еще protesters' demands. «I'm here today because, in April, McDonald's [head office] promised us contracts so that would get us off zero hours contracts. We've heard nothing from them, we've seen nothing about it,» she said. Doubtful that the company would keep their word on the issue, Batmaz went on to say, «Their promises are not — enough we've heard it before, and we have heard nothing from them [head office] — so now we want it in writing.»
