UK: Liverpool and Everton fans donate food for local community ahead of Merseyside derby

In what is considered a rare sight between football rivals from the same city, Liverpool and Everton fans crushed the stereotype by donating food for the poverty-stricken members of their community, outside Anfield in Liverpool on Wednesday, few hours ahead of the Merseyside derby kick off. Footage shows fans bringing bags of donations to one of the three vans of the Fans Supporting Foodbanks... Еще organisation, which were set up around the stadium as collection points. «We're just collecting food for the community but with it being the derby and we're playing Everton, it's extra special. Because the food bank was started by both Liverpool and Everton fans and it’s a show of solidarity within our city,» said Ian Byrne, co-head of the Fans Supporting Foodbanks. «That we're the two biggest families on Merseyside sounds a bit corny. But a family of Evertonians, a family of Liverpudlians, and us coming together we could do something that would have a profound impact within the local communities,» said Dave Kelly, the other co-head of the Fans Supporting Foodbanks. The Fans Supporting Foodbanks initiative, which was set up by both Liverpool and Everton fans, has been operating for five years straight.
