UK Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt largely ignored questions from a reporter as to why Russian state-media outlets were not permitted to take part in the Global Conference for Media Freedom in London on Thursday, as the event entered its second and final day.
The conference is co-hosted by the UK and Canada with delegations «from over 100 countries including 60 ministers and more than 1.5 thousand... Еще journalists, academics and campaigners,» according to Hunt.
Russia's RT and Sputnik media outlets were not allowed to attend the event. The UK Foreign Office issued a statement saying that this was due to «their active role in spreading disinformation.»
Moscow has criticised the decision, with Russian President Vladimir Putin's spokesperson Dmitri Peskov saying “there can‘t be any serious discussion of press freedom in an environment where journalists are denied a visit.»
