Several protesters lit smoke flares and chanted slogans at a rally in London on Thursday to denounce India's decision to strip Kashmir of its special status.
Footage shows the demonstrators gathered at Trafalgar Square in London lighting smoke flares, holding banners and placards, chanting and waving Pakistan and Azad Kashmir (Pakistan-administered Kashmir) flags.
The protest came after Indian... Еще Prime Minister Narendra Modi moved to strip Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir of its special status. Modi revoked article 370 of the Indian constitution which guaranteed special rights to Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, including the right to its constitution and significant autonomy, such as the ability to make laws giving preferential treatment to its residents.
The Indian government has sent thousands of additional troops to the disputed region, imposed a curfew, shut down telecommunications, and arrested political leaders. The demonstration coincides with India's Independence Day.
