UK: Detained PressTV journalist Hashemi mistreated — ex-colleague

An American journalist working for Iran's state TV channel had her hijab removed against her will when she was detained in the US on Sunday, according to a former colleague, journalist Nargess Moballeghi, who spoke to RT on Friday. Moballeghi claimed Hashemi was forced to have her mug shot taken without her hijab on. «She was given only a short sleeve t-shirt in contravention to her own... Еще Islamic dress code that she wears. And then she had to gain another t-shirt, just to be able to cover some of her hair,» Moballeghi said. In a phone call to her daughter, Hashemi allegedly told her that she wasn't provided with adequate food, as no halal or vegetarian option was available. «She was only able to eat a cracker or bread that came with that food since being detained,» Moballeghi added. The American-born reporter, who works for Iran's English-language Press TV television news network was reportedly detained as a material witness in an ongoing criminal case. The arrest reportedly took place at St. Louis Lambert International Airport on Sunday. She had been filming a Black Lives Matter documentary after visiting relatives in the New Orleans area. Hashemi was then taken to Washington DC, according to her eldest son. Relatives had reportedly been unable to contact her for over 48 hours, and only recently learned about her detention.
