Demonstrators gathered on Downing Street in London, on Monday, to stand in solidarity with the ongoing anti-government protests in Hong Kong.
Demonstrators were seen with signs reading «The new generation of Hong Kong, never surrender!» and «No Rioters Only Tyranny.»
The protesters touched on the situation inside the Polytechnic University, where protesters have been holed up for almost a week... Еще.
«There's been increasing violence in Hong Kong. Especially when, two days ago, the police just attacked the university and didn't allow anyone to leave. And that was just really unacceptable, because universities are supposed to be open for everyone,» said Janet, one of the protesters.
Another demonstrator, Arnold, explained that their sit-in aims at «urging the UK government to take much stronger action, to make sure that the PRC [People's Republic of China] complies with the Joint Declaration and to speak up for rights in Hong Kong.»
Janet added that although there is «not much» they can do, they protest to «show that we won't give up on fighting.»
Police are said to have arrested at least 40 students trying to break through a security cordon at the university campus on Monday.
Polytechnic University has become the scene of some of the most tense confrontations between police and protesters in more than five months of unrest in the Chinese territory.
Hong Kong has been rocked by protests sparked by a now-withdrawn extradition bill since March. The rallies have since evolved into a wider movement against the government, marked by violent clashes between protesters and the authorities.
