British rapper and activist Mathangi Arulpragasam, also known as M.I.A., visited WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in Belmarsh prison in London on Saturday.
«The basic bottom line is he's in there because he exposed some war crimes. You know, and he just campaigned for peace. And this cannot be the example. And we can't make an example to society where we penalise people for that,» she said.
«I... Еще think when you know there are people outside who are criminals and you are inside for advocating peace while people that profit from war are outside being celebrated and given Nobel peace prizes, it hurts,» she added.
Whistleblower Julian Assange has been imprisoned since May 1st and continues to remain incarcerated in the high-security prison despite having completed his sentence for skipping bail, as he awaits an extradition hearing to the United States. His next hearing will be on October 21 with the final one scheduled in February.
