UK: Baby Alfie fights for his life as ECHR rejects intervention plea

Protesters gathered outside Alder Hey children's hospital in Liverpool on Tuesday to plea for the life of 23-month-old baby Alfie Evans. Baby Alfie, who has been suffering from an unknown degenerative brain condition, was taken off life support on Monday but continued breathing unsupported. The child is caught in a life-and-death battle as the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in... Еще Strasbourg rejected a plea by the baby's parents to intervene and allow the child to be taken away for further treatments to Italy. «I'm not giving up because Alfie's breathing away, he's not suffering, he's not struggling,» Alfie's father Tom Evans said as 'Save Alfie Evans' protesters chanted in support. In a statement released by the Alder Hey Children hospital, it was announced that it was in «[Alfie's] best interests to continue with the end of [his] life care plan.» On Monday, the ECHR deemed the intervention request by Alfie's parents as «inadmissible».
