A 17th-century oil sketch believed to contain the fingerprints of the Dutch artist Rembrandt van Rijn will go under the hammer in London next week, as seen in footage filmed on Friday.
George Gordon, co-chairman of Sotheby's old master paintings department, said the prints were discovered pressed into the original layer of paint during a cleaning of the painting six years ago.
«They seem to be... Еще thumbprints. They're in the original paint of the picture and probably where Rembrandt picked the painting up when he finished,» Gordon said, adding that he expected the painting could exceed its estimate of £8 million pounds (€8.9 million; $10 million)
The work joins other several paintings from the era as a part of Sotheby's 'Old Masters' sale.
