UK: Arrests made as Extinction Rebellion protesters hit London

Police officers arrested Extinction Rebellion (XR) demonstrators as they tried to block roads outside London's Parliament Square on Tuesday, in a demonstration planned to coincide with the return of lawmakers from their summer recess. Police officers were seen removing several XR protesters who were staging a sit-in to block the roads leading to London's Parliament Square, as well as other landmarks in central London on the first day of a planned ten-day campaign of demonstrations in the UK capital. Ninety protesters were arrested by the early evening, according to the Metropolitan Police, on charges including obstructing the police and blocking the highway.
