Anti-racist demonstrators marched to Downing Street on Tuesday to demand racial justice and commemorate George Floyd on the day of his funeral service, after staging a peaceful and largely silent protest underneath a statue of Nelson Mandela.
The group marched with raised fists chanting slogans like «We want Boris» and «Black lives matter.»
The protest, organised by the group 'Stand Up To Racism,' was one of many that have taken place around the world in solidarity with Black Lives Matter and other movements.
Demonstrations in the UK and elsewhere in Europe have begun to center around the removal of statues honouring historical figures with ties to colonialism and the exploitation of indigenous people. Also on Tuesday, a protest in Oxford called for the removal of the eponymous university's sculpture of Cecil Rhodes, who managed British colonies in Africa.
