New UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo said winning the title meant for him having to train harder. He was speaking at a news conference in Abu Dhabi on Saturday after his victory over Joseph Benavidez.
«I'm the guy who everybody wants to beat so I'm the guy who everybody is looking at,» said Figueiredo.
«After that first knockdown I knew I had to capitalise on him I knew I had to dominate him. He was able to get out of some positions on the ground and then I threw another knockdown and I knew I just had to continue to do what I was doing,» he added.
The fight for the title vacated by former champion Henry Cejudo ended in the first round.
Figueiredo previously could not claim the belt despite beating Benavidez on March 1 as he was unable to make weight.
