German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, called for a military de-escalation in the tensions between Iran and the US, while speaking during a press-conference with the Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan in Dubai on Sunday.
«After all sides made clear they don't want a military escalation, we also want to avoid any misunderstandings that could lead to... Еще automatic reactions and to violence. We advocate this position in all the talks we have here. We would like to help pave that way together with all those interested in de-escalation,» said Maas, adding that «all parties involved have a responsibility to avoid an escalating spiral.»
Touching on the importance of Iran's participation in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Maas made it clear that Germany is not willing to discuss «less for less.»
Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan said that the agreements would only be successful if all countries of the region were to be a part of it. «Wider issues other than the nuclear agreement [should] be encompassed in this agreement whether it is ballistic missiles, or the support of terrorism and extremism or involvement in the internal affairs of other countries,» he added.
The German Foreign Minister is set to travel to Tehran on Monday, where he will hold talks with Iranian officials on the implementation of the 2015 nuclear agreement, that was dropped by the United States.
