The main topic of discussion was bilateral cooperation between the two countries. A number of agreements are expected to be signed after the meeting. So far, some 150 contracts have been signed between Moscow and Ashgabat. The Turkmen leader said that the partnership between Turkmenistan and Russia is developing not only in bilateral format, but also within international organisations. Berdimuhamedow also noted how the two countries had successfully developed their cooperation in both trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres. “I would like to congratulate you on the successful holding of the Asian sports games. It was a Grand event. I know that Ashgabat and the whole country had been preparing for it for more than six years. You did a great job,” Putin said. In April 2017, Russia and Turkmenistan marked the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
