Turkey: Women protest “muftis” marriage draft law

Women’s rights groups staged a demonstration outside the Turkish parliament in Ankara on Thursday to protest against allowing “muftis” to register and conduct marriages. Women chanted and held hands as they were forced from the entrance to the parliament building. Police tried to prevent the group from reading their press statement, causing tension to rise between the two sides. Protesters... Еще are angry about a draft law submitted to parliament on July 25 that would allow muftis the same rights as marriage registrars.
