President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Friday in Ankara that Turkish military and its rebel allies have besieged the northern Syrian town of Afrin and that troops could enter the city «at any moment». Erdogan also added that a total of 3,171 «terrorists» have been «neutralised» in Afrin since the start of Operation Olive Branch, highlighting that «our target is now Afrin... Еще». Turkish authorities use the word «neutralised» to refer to Kurdish troops of the People's Protection Units (YPG) and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) that either surrendered, were killed or captured. On Thursday, Turkish forces and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) allies took over the town of Jinderes in the region. Turkey now controls five of the seven settlements in the north-west Afrin region.
