Turkey: Tillerson says weapons supplies to SDF are 'limited' at joint presser with Cavusoglu

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said that the US had always been clear that weapons provided to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) would be «limited», at a joint press conference with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu in Ankara on Friday. «We have always been clear with Turkey that the weapons provided to the Syrian Democratic Forces would be limited, mission-specific and provided on... Еще an incremental basis to achieve military objectives only,» US Secretary assured Foreign Turkish Minister. Rex Tillerson called upon Turkey to restraint its actions towards Afrin and «avoid actions that would escalate tensions in that area.» Regarding the meeting held on Thursday between US Secretary and Turkish President, Mevlut Cavusoglu said that «we have taken an important turn in terms of normalising our relations, we've reached an agreement and an understanding.» When questioned regarding reports about Turkey purchasing S-400 air-defense system from Russia, the Turkish Minister said: «I am against the terminology that you use, you used the 'threat' terminology, that is not correct terminology to be used because it is true for all countries and states, we never use the language of threat and we deny if it used against us, because this is not correct.» He added that the purchase of arms is a matter of «national security» for Turkey, since the country is in «urgent need» for air-defense missiles. US Secretary met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as part of a two-day trip to Ankara.
