German Chancellor Angela Merkel arrived at Istanbul on Thursday, ahead of talks with her Turkish host and counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
An agreement on the fate of refugees is expected to be top of the agenda.
Merkel will reportedly express her country's concerns about a new migration wave into Europe from Syria via Turkey.
While Erdogan is expected to hit back, accusing the EU of failing... Еще to deliver on commitments signed under the migration pact in 2016.
Concerns over refugee numbers were raised recently, after increases reported by EU countries bordering Turkey.
On 18 March 2016, the European Council and Turkey reached an agreement aimed at stopping the flow of refugees via Turkey to Europe. According to the agreement, all new asylum seekers, arriving from Turkey to the Greek islands and whose applications for asylum have been declared inadmissible, should be returned to Turkey.
