Turkey: Parliament approves one-year extension of military mandate in Syria, Iraq

Turkey's parliament voted to support a motion by the office of president Recep Tayyip Erdogan to extend the military mandate in Syria and Iraq for one year at a session in Ankara on Tuesday. «The extension of the presidential motion number 3/878 according to the constitution item number 92, regarding to sending Turkish armed forces to foreign countries to conduct cross border operations in case of a need against the terror threats from Iraq and Syria, and all sorts of security risks against the unity of our country in the framework of the international law, and accommodating foreign countries' Armed Forces in Turkey with in the same purposes has been accepted for one more year,'' said parliament's deputy speaker Levent Gok. The extension comes as Turkey said preparations for a major military operation in northeastern Syria against the US-backed Kurdish forces were complete on Tuesday.
