Snow sculptures carved in the shape of soldiers were unveiled at Kars' Cibiltepe ski resort, Saturday, to commemorate the 103rd anniversary of World War One's Battle of Sarikamish, which claimed the lives of 10,000 Ottoman soldiers. The sculptures were reportedly completed in a period of one week. Some 100 trucks of snow were deployed to carve the sculptures. Every year, hundreds of people... Еще gather in Kizilcubuk to honour the fallen soldiers of the Battle of Sarikamish. The battle took place between December 22, 1914 and January 17, 1915, and resulted in major losses amongst the Ottoman troops, who were poorly equipped for winter conditions. The Battle of Sarikamish is viewed as part of the wider Caucasus Campaign, a series of armed conflicts fought between the Russian Empire and the Ottoman Empire during World War One.
