Dozens gathered for the funeral of human rights lawyer Ebru Timtik in Istanbul on Friday, after she passed away in a local hospital the day before.
People queued to access the funeral of 42-year-old Timtik, who had launched a hunger strike in prison to demand a fair trial for her and her colleagues, having fasted for 238 days.
Relatives and mourners gathered around the coffin of Timtik during her funeral, chanting slogans and laying flowers on her coffin.
After the funeral, attendees clashed with riot police that used tear gas to disperse them.
Ebru Timtik and 17 of her colleagues were accused of links to a militant group designated a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union, the Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front, or DHKP/C.
Timtik's case was under review by an appeals court and she was sentenced to 13 years and six months in prison, after being convicted in March 2019. Timtik died after being on hunger strike for 238 days.
