Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu hit back at US President Donald Trump over his threat to «devastate Turkey economically» if the Turkish military attacks US-allied Kurdish fighters in northern Syria. He made the remarks at a joint press conference with his Luxembourg counterpart Jean Asselborn in Ankara on Monday.
Cavusoglu said that Ankara will not be intimidated by its NATO ally... Еще, noting that «we have said repeatedly we are not scared of and will not be intimidated by any threats.»
The Turkish Foreign Minister condemned Trump for using Twitter to address such sensitive matters. He said, «Strategic partners and allies, do not hold discussions via Twitter and via social media.»
The spat between Ankara and Washington comes following Trump's decision to withdraw US troops from Syria. Washington's surprise announcement of the pullout drew criticism, and is seen by some as an abandonment of its ally in the country, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), who when backed by the US ousted IS militants from much of northern Syria.
