Amnesty International renewed a call for an international investigation into the murder of Saudi journalist and Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi, while staging a demonstration outside the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on Thursday.
Representatives of the group symbolically changed the name of the street leading to the Saudi consulate where the journalist was murdered, naming it Jamal... Еще Khashoggi Street. The protest came on the 100th day since Khashoggi's disappearance and killing by Saudi agents.
«What we're calling for is the international community to step up, pressure for an international investigation under the UN and to put human rights values ahead of the diplomatic and trade ties with Saudi Arabia,» a representative said.
Last week Saudi Arabia announced the opening of a trial of 11 people charged with the murder, with prosecutors saying they will seek the death penalty for at least 5 of them.
Khashoggi was killed on October 2, 2018, in what was defined a rogue operation by Riyadh.
