Thailand: Russian pianist plays TEN hours straight for Thai King's birthday

Russian pianist Ivan Sharapov conducted a ten-hour marathon performance in Bangkok on Thursday, dedicated to the 66th birthday of the Thai King Maha Vajiralongkorn (Rama X). The project, dubbed «10 for X,» took place at the River City Bangkok exhibition centre. Sharapov performed more than 100 pieces by Russian and foreign composers, including Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Johannes... Еще Brahms, and Frederic Chopin. According to the organisers, the marathon was a birthday gift to King Maha Vajiralongkorn from all Russians living in Thailand. «We are so happy and proud to make this project from all Rusisian community, because all Russian people who live in this country like this country so much,» said the Russian pianist Sharapov before starting the marathon. Rama X became king in December, 2016, following the death of his father, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who had ruled the country for 70 years. Thailand will officially celebrate the birthday of Rama X on July 28.
