Taiwan: Armed forces hold drills to beat back simulated invasion

Taiwan's air, sea and land forces launched a military exercise aimed at repelling a simulated invader near Taichung in central Taiwan on Thursday. Footage shows naval vessels, helicopters and Ching-kuo fighter jets partaking in the drills near a coastal strip. As many as 8,000 soldiers took part in the live-fire drill. The drill was modelled on a potential invasion of the island by China and comes at a time where tensions between Beijing and Taiwan have flared up anew. Beijing sees Taiwan as part of its territory.
