Syrian refugee couple offers free meals to Lisbon's health workers battling COVID

A Syrian refugee couple who fled their war-torn country years ago is giving away free meals to health workers fighting the COVID-19 pandemic in Lisbon hospitals. Footage filmed on Wednesday in the 'Tayybeh' restaurant shows the owners cooking and packing the meals. «I think it's the simple things we can do,» said co-owner Alan Ghunim. «When [health workers] finish their shifts or they are going... Еще to their shifts or they are going back to their homes, it's nice to have a good meal. You don't need to waste your time cooking or something, you just go to the children or your team with a full stomach as we say in Arabic.» He added that him and his wife and co-owner Ramia Abdalghani prepare between 50 and 75 meals per day. Ramia Abdalghani and Alan Ghumim have been offering free food since mid-March, as they opted to stay open for this generous action amid the coronavirus pandemic.
