The people of Ayn Issa held a demonstration to protest Turkish military operations against Kurdish militias in Afrin, in northern Syria on Tuesday. The assembled crowd can be seen waving the flag of Kurdistan and listening to speeches in one of the town's squares. One resident, Hamad Hasan al-Abd emphasised the need for unity in the face of Turkish aggression. «Arabs, Kurds, Armenians, and... Еще Christians, our consolidation is the only way out of terrorism and from the fascist terrorism of Erdogan», he said. The Kurdish Popular Protection Units (YPG), which are being targeted by Turkey in Afrin, are responsible for recapturing Ayn Issa from IS militants in 2015. On Saturday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the beginning of the military operation against the Kurdish YPG militia. Turkey views the YPG, which is active in northern Syria, as an extension of the banned militant group the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
